Kingston Lost and Found Pets aims to reunite owners with their lost pet.

City of Kingston Officers will use this page to post information about found domestic animals; including an image of the pet and the location and approximate time it was found. Officers are keen to reunite missing pets with their owners and it is hoped that this page will help do just that.
The community is welcome to post images of lost pets on the Kingston Lost and Found Pets page; however, it must not be used to offer rewards for finding pets. Posts containing rewards, advertising or unsuitable language will be removed.
Please be reassured if your dog is found registered with Kingston and wearing a Council tag, Council will endeavor to contact you with the purpose of reuniting you with your lost pet. More information about registering pets is listed below.
Please note: The images posted on this page may not accurately reflect how the pets look. If your pet is missing, Council strongly encourages you to visit Council’s Pound Service to view an animal in person to determine if it is your pet.
Remember: It is the responsibility of pet owners to find their missing pet. Do not rely on this Facebook page alone to locate your cat or dog. You should always ring Council’s Pound Service on 9702 8055 to register your information and call back regularly to check whether a cat or dog matching your pet’s description has been picked up. The community is also encouraged to contact neighbouring municipalities, as well as vets and local shelters such as Australian Animal Protection Society, Peninsula Animal Aid and Burwood RSPCA.
If you have found a pet then please notify Council on 1300 653 356. If owners are looking for it and you fail to report the animal, they may not be able to find it.

Pet registration

The City of Kingston promotes responsible pet ownership.
State Government legislation requires all dogs and cats to be registered with Council at three months of age. If you've purchased a new animal you'll need to register it with Council when it reaches three months, or immediately if it's already three months old. For more information on registering your pet please visit http://www.kingston.vic.gov.au or call Council on 1300 653 356.
Registering your cat or dog is also greatly improves their chances of being returned to you if they are lost and wearing the Council identification marker.
Your registration fee also provides a wide range of very important services, including:
• Services to remove wandering and aggressive dogs from the streets, so you and your pet can walk in safety;
• Services to deal with nuisance problems like barking dogs, cat trespass and unowned animals;
• Control of dangerous, menacing and restricted breed dogs so they do not pose a threat to the community;
• Council licensing animal businesses and monitoring of animal welfare standards in pet shops, kennels, catteries, breeding and training businesses;
• Education programs for the general community and for children in preschools and primary schools (visit http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/petss for details);
• Research into dog and cat welfare and control issues, including dog attack prevention.
Council also has a dedicated Education Officer, Local Laws Foreshore Officer, off leash areas, dog exercise and play parks, discount microchipping and pet events, such as Kingston’s Mini Pet Expo.
Discount registration fees are available in a range of circumstances, such as when pets are de-sexed, microchipped or graduate from approved dog training. For more information please visit http://www.kingston.vic.gov.auu or call 1300 653 356.

Cat curfew

The City of Kingston has a cat curfew to ensure the safety of our feline friends. Cats must be kept secure within the owner’s property from sunset to sunrise.
There are several important reasons why Kingston has a cat curfew, including lowering the risk of injury and infection caused by fighting with other cats, and reducing nuisances and road trauma by wandering cats.
Cats can be confined overnight by keeping them inside the house, enclosing a veranda with chicken or fly wire, or creating a cat enclosure in the yard.
If a cat is found outside, or not securely confined to an owner’s premises between sunset and sunrise, the owner may be liable for a fine of $60.

Protect your pet

Many lost pets are never reunited with their owners as they can't be identified. Your cat or dog must wear a current Council registration tag and it's also a good idea to have an ID tag with your name and address. Microchips can also be implanted under the skin to permanently identify an animal. If your dog is injured and taken to a vet you'll be contacted if your dog wears your details or is implanted with a microchip.

Impounded animals

Councils are required to keep a dog for eight days if it's impounded. If your dog is in the pound you must collect it and pay a fee plus any fines for relevant offences. Council’s Pound Service can be contacted on 9702 8055.

Caring for pets during fireworks and thunderstorms

Fireworks and thunderstorms can be frightening for dogs, cats and other animals, including horses, as they are loud and unfamiliar.
It is important to be prepared for nights when fireworks are going to be let off or when there is about to be a thunderstorm. If you cannot be at home to comfort your pet, please ensure it is securely confined and there is nothing in the house or yard the animal can injure itself on if it panics.
For information on how to prepare, please visit www.dpi.vic.gov.au/pets/dog-care/fireworks-and-thunderstorms
